Garden of Eat'in - Project to grow fresh produce in order to allow guests to be empowered by their efforts

The Jerome Community Kitchen and Martha & Mary's Food Pantry provide hot meals and food for those in need within the community of Jerome.

Every Monday & Wednesday evening for the past 20 years, Saint Jerome’s Catholic Church has opened its doors to host a soup kitchen which is now called the Jerome Community Kitchen. The kitchen serves 10,000 meals averaging nearly 100 meals each day of service.

Martha & Mary’s Food Pantry began in January 2011 in an effort to eliminate the “mobile food pantry”. Food is brought to the pantry where volunteers weigh by category, sort, clean, inventory, and then distribute food according to the shelf life, menu and required needs. The pantry provides 3,000 boxes of food to our guests.

Agreements with the Grocery Alliance Program (GAP), Idaho Food Bank (IFB), South Central Community Action Agency Partnership (SCCAAP) and St Jerome's Catholic Church assist in continuing the necessary food donations and support in order to feed those in need within our community.

With the dedication of volunteer organizations from the community we are able to provide meals to a very diverse group of people. Many of our volunteers are guests themselves. They come early to help set up tables and chairs, prepare meals, serve dinners, and clean up, as well as help in countless additional ways. The community organizations and churches come to serve food and connect with the community. Over 12,000 Hours of support by our volunteers has been recorded.

Our sponsors and valuable volunteer organizations include the following:

Boy Scouts * DL Evans Bank * First Federal Savings Bank * Kelly Garden Center * 9 Beans & A Burrito * Pepsi Bottling * Rite Stuff Foods * St. Benedict’s FMC * Salvation Army * Scarrow Meats * Smokin’ Cowboys * Stamp Out Hunger * Stinker Stations * Ridley’s * Winco * Walmart * First Baptist Church * Jerome High School Honor Students * Jerome Lions Club * Jovenas (Hispanic Catholic Youth) * Jerome LDS Church *Monastery of the Ascension *Mujeres Bonitas (Pretty Women) * Rotary Club of Jerome* St Lukes Hospital * St Jerome’s Knights of Columbus * St Paul's Lutheran Church * United Methodist Church * and many more.

The efforts of our community support and the hard work of our volunteers has enabled the Jerome Community Kitchen and Martha & Mary’s Food Pantry to provide food for 18,000 people last year while operating on a shoestring budget with no paid employees.
